RANT WARNING skip if you don't want to read it

ok so i had a run with a friend where the great khan spawned(awakened) next to me. I crushed him easily however he managed to briefly conquer 2 of my systems. this was an issue as one of those systems had my main production planet for alloys in it. the system had also another energy producing planet. now the great khan went in quickly killed the ring but my fleets got there in time before he could take my planets. now i sit there with 2 ruined orbital rings which take up my megastructure build capacity if i want to restore them. But wait for WHATEVER reason my game bugged out and decided that each orbital ring counted twice so i sit with 4 ruined orbital rings now. But WAIT this happened to 2 other planets too so now i sit with 8 ruined orbital rings. AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH the game bugs out again and when i restore the orbital ring over the ecumonopolis it bugs out again and says there is no orbital ring even though i can't built an orbital ring even though there is none. Also if i want to restore all orbital rings i would sit there for almost 16 years before i could start building an actuall megastructure.

If you don't want to read the rant
my suggestion is the following:

if you wanna keep the mechanic of orbital rings being ruined please 1 don't make restoring them take up a megastructure slot and 2. instead delete them completely so one is forced to rebuild them

though in my opinion its an outdated mechanic which doesn't add anything to the game and "ruined orbital ring" should be removed

It's amazing that a mechanic that's, what, a year old, is "outdated." That word you're using, I do not think it means what you think it means.

They shouldn't take up a Megastructure slot of course, but also, "They add nothing" is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. They're a way to cheaply upgrade a planet. Or, alternatively, you could literally just ignore them because there's no penalty to just having one around.

Oh im sorry of course ruined orbital rings do add so much to the game I like that instead of building a new one to replace the old i have to waste 2 years of my megastructure build capacity i also like how apparently if the orbital ring on your main ecumonoplies gets destroyed and your alloy production is reduced by a solid 25 percent its of no consequence since just leaving the orbital ring around doesn'T give one any penalties (this is of course ignoring that now your ecumonopolis can'T have an orbital ring around it and with that your alloy production on that planet sinks by 25 % or more and if that the onyl planet producing alloys).

In all seriousness the mechanic that orbital rings become "ruined" after a crisis attacks them i find very poorly thought out since it just makes the reconquest just more frustrating. Go and tell me in all seriousness that when a crisis just took your main production center and you managed to reconquer the system with no pops purged or with minimal delay you're happy that you now have to rebuilt the orbital ring with a megastructure built slot. i was in the middle of building a mega shipyard and had to wait 3 years before i even could start with the repair of the ruined orbital ring. in my opinion it would be better if the orbital ring just self destructed after a crisis destroyed it instead of it becoming "ruined" it would simulate the repair after a devastating occupation better than the current system also since you think this mechanic is so valuable to the game please tell me unironically what makes it so great. In my opinion its just a frusting mechanic that added to a frustrating situation

FAQs

Do Orbital Rings count towards starbase capacity? ›

do orbital rings count towards starbase capacity? No to both. /edit: Actually, yes to Ion Cannons, but you will need some effect that increases their defense platform limit.

Can Orbital Rings be built around habitats Stellaris? ›

As far as I know Orbital Rings are supposed to fall under the same rules as habitats in that you can build either around a planet. Might be they got flagged as Megastructure somehow. As long as the planet is colonised, or currently being colonised, you should be able to build a ring around it.

Why can't i build an orbital ring Stellaris? ›

Before players can build their first Orbital Ring Megastructure in Stellaris, they'll first need to discover and research the Orbital Rings tech. Due to Stellaris' semi-random tech choices, players will need to research Starhold, Ceramo-Metal Infrastructure, and Galactic Administration first.

Why am I not getting Megastructures in Stellaris? ›

Every Megastructure requires it's own tech research. Megaengineering only unlocks the ability to repair Megastructures, and Galactic Wonders only unlocks the ability to research Ring Worlds, Dyson Spheres, and Matter Decompressors, not to build them.

Can I destroy a Megastructure in Stellaris? ›

FTL megastructures can be constructed in any system which doesn't already have that type of megastructure. They can also be dismantled if the empire has the technology to build them. Unlike other megastructures, they can be constructed in the systems of subjects as well.

How many megastructures can you build? ›

Only one multi-stage Megastructure can be built per system and only one multi-stage Megastructure can be constructed or upgraded at a time. All multi-stage Megastructures can only be built once per Empire, except for the Ring World.

Is it possible for a terrestrial planet to have rings? ›

Although Earth doesn't have a ring system today, it may have had one in the past. All gas giant planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) in the Solar System have rings, while the terrestrial ones (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) do not. There are two theories about how ring systems develop.

What is the difference between orbital ring and habitat complex? ›

Orbital Rings go around colonized planets. Habitat complexes around stars, and major and minor habitats around uninhabited planets in the same system.

Can you terraform uninhabitable planets Stellaris? ›

Terraforming isn't just about expansion; it's a strategic move with several benefits: Revealing New Habitats: Transform uninhabitable worlds into thriving colonies. Strategic Advantage: Control more space and resources, leading to a stronger position against adversaries.

Can you crack a shielded world Stellaris? ›

It takes way too many ingame years for the shield to weaken enough for you to break it. I don't think ANY player would play for that long. Well that doesn't work, because the game clears the planet and turns it into a generic, uninhabitable world.

Why can't i colonize a planet Stellaris? ›

Planets with an anomaly or a primitive civilization cannot be colonized.

What is the dotted circle around my ship in Stellaris? ›

Jump drives allow the ship to make a direct jump within a limited range, indicated by a yellow dotted circle. Initiate a jump by selecting the fleet, clicking the "Initiate Jump" button and left-clicking the target.

How would an orbital ring work? ›

An orbital ring is a concept of an artificial ring placed around a body and set rotating at such a rate that the apparent centrifugal force is large enough to counteract the force of gravity. For the Earth, the required speed is on the order of 10 km/sec, compared to a typical low Earth orbit velocity of 8 km/sec.

What does a Dyson sphere do Stellaris? ›

Designed to encompass an entire star, the Dyson Sphere captures a huge percentage of its power output.

How to get more Starbase capacity? ›

Starbase Capacity grows with the number of owned systems. Certain, edicts, civics and technologies also can increase it. Starbase Capacity is a soft limit just like naval capacity. You can exceed it but doing so progressively increases the upkeep cost.

How high would an orbital ring be? ›

An orbital ring is, in its simplest form, a structure encircling the Earth, at an altitude of 100-400km above the surface.

Can you build multiple Ring Worlds in Stellaris? ›

Yes you can built more ring worlds at the same time. Each fill in project counts as 1. You can multiplex these, until you hit your maximum number.
