This is not a bug. Repairing any megastructure always takes the Mega-Engineering tech. The description for the Shattered Ring origin is telling you that the ring sections are repairable, not that you will be able to repair them right away. There exist non-repairable ringworld sections.

Well, when someone tell me that "I can repair something" I expect to be able to repair it right away, not after spending decades on R&D. The "Can repair two other sections of the home system" from the description should be removed or renamed to something less missleading.

Sounds like the text wasn't updated when the Origin changed - when I made the Origin the ring segments COULD be repaired with the tech, but the Custodian team has since changed it.

Let's look at what description of the Origin says:

Stellaris - Shattered Ring origin: impossible to repair the two sections without Mega Engineering tech [3.4.3] [9d15] (107)

"The Shattered Ring World can be repaired, unlocking special Ring World Segment Districts."

That's the only part which talks about repairs.
It seems pretty clear it's only talking about the

main segment

, which can be repaired in order to make it a "Ring World Segment" instead of a "Shattered Ring World Segment".
It doesn't mention the other segments, and it doesn't say that it's easier in any way. It simply says that it is possible, as opposed to "you're stuck with the Shattered Ring World forever".

But, I see your signature is in French. So maybe the problem is with the French description... let's see:

Stellaris - Shattered Ring origin: impossible to repair the two sections without Mega Engineering tech [3.4.3] [9d15] (108)

"This ring can be repaired, giving then* specific Ring World Segments"
Yeah this is somewhat confusing. It sounds like we can repair the whole Ring World, which isn't true since there is one segment which can't ever be repaired.
But... even here, it doesn't say it's gonna be easier to repair, just that it's possible.

Also no clue why it's talking about Gaia Worlds at the end. That description does need a fix.

The Gaia worlds in french is definitely a localization error.

I don't think there is any clear differences between english and french localizations on the repairing part though. What's make me made the assumption that it would be different than a normal ring world is the whole emphasis on 'this shattered ring world' right before the repairing ability in both localizations: 'the Shattered Ring World' or 'Cet anneau' both seems to imply that this ring is peculiar and not like the other ring worlds. The problem is that there is no differences to repair the ring (there is one, you can't repair the whole ring, but it's not what seems to be implyed in both localizations).

On the other hand, with both localizations right under my nose, I'm pretty sure the reparation wasn't the main point of this tooltip, the emphasis seems to be more on the 'unlocking special ring world segments'. But either way, you don't need to repair it to use those special segments, they're already there in the only available segment at game start.

I'm pretty sure the whole 'can be repaired' isn't necessary in the tooltip. For reference, the Remnants origin don't tell the player he can repair the relic world into an oecumenopolis. Removing it and remplacing it with 'Use special ring world segment districts' would probably be more clear.

Yes, exactly.
Except:

Metroidkirby said:

But either way, you don't need to repair it to use those special segments, they're already there in the only available segment at game start.

That's where the misunderstanding is:

The first part (english localization: "Start with a Shattered Ring World as your homeworld") is an important detail because "Shattered Ring Worlds" have access to

the same districts as normal planets

(with two exceptions: the Mining district creates "Scrap Miners" jobs instead of "Miners" and the Generator district is replaced by a Trade district), instead of the more powerful "Ring World" districts (although I read that some people prefer the Shattered Ring World districts... I don't really have an opinion because I haven't played that origin much since it became bad).

So then the second part (english localization: "The Shattered Ring World can be repaired, unlocking special Ring World Segment Districts.") really just means "don't worry, you can still have those awesome Ring World districts... eventually."

Basically turning a unique world into a standard Ring World.
Because in the end, the only way to have a Shattered Ring World (and their unique trade/mining districts) is to have an empire spawn with this origin, and not repair that world. It's when you repair it that it's no longer special... then it's just a normal Ring World with one irreparable segment.

I've seen a lot of people saying that this origin feels underwhelming, and honestly, I agree (there's a reason I never play it anymore).
The thing is, I'm pretty sure this is intended. Apparently, it was too powerful at some point, so they nerfed it... a lot. Now it's just for role-play.

That's a good point. That might just do the trick.

Hum, I was getting the impression that the 'special segment districts' refered to the shattered ring world districts rather than the regular one. Precrisely because the regular one is the regular one and not the peculiar shattered ring version.

So repairing the shattered ring gives the regular ring world districts? I was under the impression that all three sections would have the same shattered ring world districts.

I'll update the tooltip to something like: 'repaired sections will use regular ring world districts'

Hum, I was getting the impression that the 'special segment districts' refered to the shattered ring world districts rather than the regular one. Precrisely because the regular one is the regular one and not the peculiar shattered ring version.

That would make sense, but it's really not how I'm understanding it, it's talking about the districts you get

after

repairing the segment you start with.

Metroidkirby said:

So repairing the shattered ring gives the regular ring world districts? I was under the impression that all three sections would have the same shattered ring world districts.

Yes. Only the starting Segment has the Shattered Ring World districts, the other 2 damaged segments will be "standard" Ring Worlds as soon as they are repaired, if I remember right. (Haven't done this in ages)

I'll update the tooltip to something like: 'repaired sections will use regular ring world districts'

That sounds a lot less special, but it does reflect pretty well the fact that this origin has become a lot worse now.
