How Long Should A New Fridge Freezer Stand Before Turning On?

4 hours if transported on its side or 1 hour if transported upright. After the corresponding amount of time, your new fridge freezer will be perfectly ready to use.

We almost always transport our fridge freezers on their sides, unless it’s a small fridge freezer. So any fridge freezer you buy from Herne Bay Domestics will take 4 hours to settle. And our delivery men will always tell you how long you need to let it settle as a friendly reminder too.

If you are buying your fridge freezer from elsewhere, make sure to ask how it has been transported to ensure you don’t damage the appliance.

Why do you need to leave your fridge freezer to settle?

When your new fridge freezer is being transported, it is very common for the oil inside of the compressor to drain into the refrigeration system. This will not damage your fridge freezer if you leave it to settle for the allotted time, however switching your fridge freezer on before then could end up causing a system blockage.

We always tell customers to leave their fridge freezer for around 4 hours to be on the safe side. However some manufacturers will say their fridge can be used after considerably less time. If it says in the instruction book that you can use your fridge after just an hour of it being positioned, that is absolutely fine to do.

When can I put food in my new fridge freezer?

You can put food in your new fridge freezer after letting it settle for 4 hours if it was transported on its side or 1 hour if it was transported upright. After this amount of time you’re absolutely fine and safe to put your food in your new fridge freezer.

How long does it take for a new fridge freezer to get cold?

Depending on the make and model, most fridge freezers will be cold enough for proper use in around 1 to 2 hours.

You can go to different places for comparing prices. But none of them will do what this company did for me. Really a community spirit and driven to make something work with a fridge/freezer - microwave - cooker - Kettle - hoover and more... They came to help set my place up and were really kind in making sure everything was working okay before leaving. Will never forget it and extremely grateful to the HBD team!

Third time I've use you and every time has been a great shopping experience, with courteous and professional guidance coupled with a quick delivery service, so much better than the warehouses with their inexperienced commission chasers.
